What leads people to do it? To cut their veins. To hang themselves. To drink something poisonous (do they even taste good?). To shoot themselves in the head. Jump off a bridge or a building. Why? I mean...why?!
I understand that I'm lucky that I didn't get to experience what they are going through (or went through since they're now...uhm...six feet under) or that I did and I just handled it better. I mean, yeah, I've had my heart broken. I've failed at something (or some things) in life. I've been treated badly by other people (even my family) but I'm still here. I never thought of throwing myself in front of the bus or even running for office (this is the ultimate suicide for me). Yeah, I've crossed EDSA but there were traffic enforcers and stop lights to guide me. I just can't understand what drives people to do that to themselves. Not just to themselves but to the people who love and care about them. Dealing with death alone is terrible. What more understanding or getting over death by suicide. Kinda makes you think, "What did we do wrong?", "San tayo nagkulang?" and other questions like that. I wonder what goes on in their minds while they're about to do it or while actually attempting to kill themselves. Or are they even sane at all?
I heard that most people do that as a way of escaping their problems. But I think that's the coward's way. There are many ways on how we can solve our problems. Getting TV time while you're on a billboard on EDSA will definitely not.
Sourcing out an article about suicide on Wikipedia, it said: "According to the theology of the Catholic Church, death by suicide is considered a grave or serious sin. The chief Catholic Christian argument is that one's life is the property of God and a gift to the world, and to destroy that life is to wrongly assert dominion over what is God's and is a tragic loss of hope." And they also say that your soul will stay put here on Earth if not go directly to hell. Scary. It's equivalent to killing someone else.
Maybe only the people who committed suicide can understand themselves. I certainly don't. God gave us our lives, man. A life. That's just not something that we can throw away just like that. If you have a problem, pray. Talk to a friend. Never think of ending it. Never. God brought us here for a purpose. He gave us life and gave us opportunities. Let's not waste it.
There are many ways to deal with trouble or problems in life. Everything can be solved--one way or another. And people are willing to help. Don't keep to yourself. Talking about your problem may not always be good but if it's major enough that you want to kill yourself, then you need someone to talk to.
Suicide is not an answer. It just worsens the problem. Your problem and everyone else who loves you.
